Ravenswood students enjoy outstanding academic success supported by innovative teaching practices that are underpinned by a whole school approach to Positive Education.The position of Science Laboratory Lead Technician is responsible for the overall coordination, preparation and support of Science Teaching Staff in the delivery of lessons.Key responsibilities:Supervising the work of the Laboratory Assistant.Oversight and organisation of seven new science laboratories and two prep rooms.Preparation of laboratory equipment and chemicals in accordance with teacher lesson plans.Preparation of chemicals, equipment and items required for practical lessons and assessments.Set up and clean up of laboratories before and after lessons.Management of the chemical and equipment stores.Care and maintenance of displays and noticeboards to ensure compliance and enhance the learning environment.Maintenance of the chemical register, MSDS’s, chemical risk assessments and chemical storage.Work health and safety compliance of all the science laboratories, preparation areas, chemical storage and annual auditing.Accurate preparation and issue of chemicals as requested.Assistance in constructing and setting up demonstrations.Assistance with maintenance of long-term experiments.Setting up equipment for practical examinations.Assistance with preparation for visits to museums, field trips, etc.Other related duties as requested.Purchase and repair equipment as required.Monitoring and maintaining the stock levels and ordering supplies.Cleaning glassware and other equipment.Skills, Knowledge and Attributes: Technical and practical laboratory skills.Knowledge of the appropriate use and storage of chemicals.Proactive and energetic with a positive approach to work.Able to work collaboratively with teaching staff.Strong communication skills.Meticulous attention to detail, accuracy and record keeping skills.Experience working in a school or tertiary laboratory environment would be preferredSkills in using ICT for record keeping and communicationAble to exercise sound judgment in determining work prioritiesAble to deal tactfully and confidentially with staff and studentsAble to problem solve appropriatelyAbility to meet tight deadlinesAbility to prioritise workload and manage multiple tasksFlexible /team focusedWillingness to learn new skillsWorks well in a team and unsupervisedFriendly, happy dispositionEven tempered/sense of humourEducational Qualifications BA or Certificate in Science or equivalent experienceRavenswood is a child safe organisation and all statutory checks and references are required prior to the confirmation of employment.Applications close 16 November 2017To apply: Please visit our website at www.ravenswood.nsw.edu.au and click on Quick Links EmploymentFor a confidential discussion, please contract Toby Duncan, Science Coordinator on (02) 9498 9898 to email tduncan@ravenswood.nsw.edu.auRavenswood is a Uniting Church IB World School.
